White Copal Resin

$13.50 $12.15

Description: The name Copal comes from the name in the Nahualtly language “Copalli” which means resin or sacred incense. It has been used for centuries by indigenous people of Mexico and Central America during ceremonies, cleanses, smudging, healing rituals, and in Mexico they burn it on the Day of the Dead to purify the souls of the spirits and to elevate the prayers of friends and family to God.

How to use:

  • Sit in a quiet space and try to clear your mind.
  • Light a charcoal tablet and place it into the smudging bowl (to do this you will need a pair of tongs and a smudging bowl or heat proof bowl, please see more of how to use by clicking Tongs and Smudging Bowl)
  • Once carbon is hot, place a small piece of copal onto it using your tongs. Make sure not to use your fingers, the carbon is very hot and you can get burned!
  • When the smoke begins to thin out, add more incense. The charcoal will stay hot enough to burn incense for about 45 minutes to an hour.
  • Make sure to never throw ashes into garbage after burning, the coal still might be hot! It is best to let the ashes sit over night or run it under water before disposing them.

*Smudging is an ancient practice used for healing, ceremonial, and energy clearing work. It’s a common tool that many spiritual practitioners and seekers use today to energetically clear and even protect spaces. Smudging is when you burn sacred herbs and resins, believing the sacred smoke to raise vibrations, dispel of negativity, and assist with spiritual work.
